The Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers’ Association (SALUTA) on Thursday strongly condemned the non-payment of salaries and leave encashment to the teachers, officers and employees of the university ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. Reportedly, the SALUTA representatives including Prof Dr Amir Ali Chandio, Prof Dr Abdul Hussain Shar, Prof Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah, Prof Dr Masihullah Jatoi, Prof Dr Samina Rajpar and Ahmed Ali Memon held an emergent meeting and observed that the non-payment of salaries was a sheer violation of the directives issued by the Sindh government, according to a notification issued on August 10, 2018. Meanwhile, the representatives appealed to the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for taking a stern action to resolve the issue on the priority basis and save future of the university, respectively. In their talk to the media, they claimed that a notification had been issued by the university which undertook to release leave encashment before Eid-ul-Fitr, however, Eid-ul-Azha has approached but the amount including increased salaries has been pending. They also criticised the university’s policy to restrict faculty members from acquiring higher studies, and termed it as ‘their fundamental right’. He called it a worst example of bad governance and financial crisis in the history of the university where what they called ‘unessential’ expenditure of funds was being wasted in VIP protocols of the university’s officials, whereas, MS/PhD allowances and monthly stipend were being halted.
