Sir: A girl has allegedly been repeatedly raped by her father for the last seven months in Faisalabad’s Chak Jhumra area. However, the victim raised a hue and cry, people from the neighbourhood reached the spot and shifted her to a local hospital for treatment. A case was registered against the suspect and raids were conducted to arrest him. Further, in recent months, cases of sexual abuse have been on the rise across Punjab. Despite these incidents occurring on a daily basis, the government’s counter measures have been largely disappointing. Most cases have been reported from Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Gujranwala and other parts of the province. The victims include women and minor girls and boys. A report revealed that the highest incidents of sexual abuse involving children were recorded in Punjab. Hundreds of rape cases have been identified, but only a few victims have come forward to seek justice. Despite Punjab, even all over the country rape cases are massively increasing and these innocent girls are left to die on the roads. Therefore, I request to law enforcement agencies to pay heed to the grave problem. FIDA ZAMAN Kech Published in Daily Times, August 17th 2018.
