On the 71st Independence Day of Pakistan, Comsats University Islamabad (CUI) launched its Azadi Adopt a Tree Plantation Campaign. Over 20,000 trees of various species will be planted in this drive on sites specified by the Capital Development Authority, Islamabad, as well as at CUI campuses in Abbottabad, Wah, Lahore, Sahiwal, Attock and Vehari as part of its efforts towards a sustainable and green. CUI Rector Professor Dr Raheel Qamar is committed to caring of the plants for two years and ensured that the planted trees become healthy trees for saving Pakistan’s environment. Chief Commissioner Islamabad Jouhdad Ayaz, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) chief officer and Additional Secretary Education Farah Hamid also graced the occasion. The CUI rector emphasised the precedent set by CUI for raising own resources from donations that were made through public awareness for the plantation campaign. Professor Dr Raheel Qamar also said that it is the civic duty of every citizen to play a part in maintaining the beauty of our homeland and protecting the environment of Pakistan. Jouhdad Ayaz, MCI Chief Officer Syed Najaf Iqbal and Farah Hamid also appreciated the efforts of CUI in raising awareness about saving Pakistan’s environment. The guests planted trees to inaugurate the campaign and encouraged faculty members, students and other citizens to join the activity on a larger scale to help the government protect the environment. Over 1,000 faculty members, students and staff members of CUI were also present on the occasion and planted trees to support the activity. Published in Daily Times, August 16th 2018.
