Sir: The federal government recently issued a notification regarding the Eid-ul-Azha holidays. According to the notification, there are only three Eid holidays this time around. In yesteryears I have witnessed at least four holidays for the ‘bari’ Eid, and I was astonished to read the ticker on a private TV channel screen about the announcement of holidays. I want to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to this unkind act as a lot of public will suffer on Eid days just because of inadequate holidays this time. I am a government employee serving in Rawalpindi city but my hometown is Khushab. If I travel to Khushab on August 21 then I will have to return to Rawalpindi on August 23 (third day of Eid) to attend my office in the morning of August 24. One should ask the concerned authorities whether it would be easy for a person using public transport with 5-6 family members, amid the uproar during the holidays, as well as the extra fares charged by private transporters. When I shared this bad news with my other friends who also belong to remote areas in Punjab, they cancelled their trip to visit their home towns as it would not be an easy task to travel during the rush during the Eid days. I humbly request the concerned authorities to review the decision which is going to affect the majority of masses in the country. Moreover if it was a ‘change’ that was promised by the PTI leaders then this type of change is not acceptable anymore. MUHAMMAD ARSHAD Rawalpindi Published in Daily Times, August 16th 2018.
