KARACHI: Elaborate arrangements have been made to celebrate Independence Day in Karachi on August 14. Flag hoisting ceremony will be held at Mazar-e-Quaid-e Azam followed by floral wreath laying on grave of Father of Nation. Governor Sindh, Chief Minister of Sindh, members of provincial cabinet will hoist national flag in the ceremony. Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Sualeh faruqui after a review meeting said that security arrangement coupled with traffic management would be accorded top priority during the day long celebrations. It was decided that cleanliness around vicinity of Quaid’s mausoleum would be ensured and adequate parking arrangements for vehicles will be made. It was also decided during the meeting that students from different schools in metropolis would be particularly invited to attend ceremony. Karachi Commissioner directed Sindh Information Department to arrange media coverage for the prestigious event. Meanwhile all DMCs, KMC and civic bodies have made arrangements to celebrate the Day with national fervor. Municipal Commissioner KMC Dr Saifur Rehman, Additional Karachi I Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Additional Karachi -II Commissioner Ghulam Murtaza Memon, East Deputy commissioner Ahmed Ali Siddiqui Assistant Commissioner Aijaz Hussain Rin, Director Information Zeenat Jehan, senior officials of Education Department Police Pakistan Rangers and DMCs were present at the meeting. Sindh Madressatul Islam University to celebrate Independence Day Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) which is also an alma mater of Mohammad Ali Jinnah and other prominent leaders of the Pakistan Movement is celebrating the Independence Day today with zeal and national spirit. The Independence Day program will begin sharp at 9:00 am with a flag hoisting ceremony at the university premise. After that, the participants will be directed towards Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium at SMIU for the main event in which sacrifices of Muslims of the sub-continent for a separate homeland will be highlighted through different activities including speeches, national songs and poetry.
