Sir: Horrific sexual assaults like the one that took the life of seven year old Zainab Ansari in January 2018 continue to take place. Over the past one week, there have been numerous cases such as an uncle and brother-in-law torturing, raping and killing seven-year old Kainat in Karachi. In Islamabad, four on-duty CDA employees raped a young woman in Islamabad’s Fatima Jinnah F-9 park. Another rape took place in Rawalakot, while honour killings transpired in Lahore, Muzaffargarh and DG Khan. However in Nawabshah, a parent killed their own daughters out of poverty induced depression. Then there were the recent targeted attacks by militant extremists against girls’ education. Two girls’ schools were burned down in Pishin and fourteen were bombed in Diamir. For how long will people continue to turn a blind eye to these atrocities? We are all responsible here, each and every member of Pakistani society. We all know what needs to be done. When will we show the courage and resolve required to do it? When will we finally make a change? We need to take concrete action now. TAHIRA ABDULLAH Islamabad Published in Daily Times, August 11th 2018.
