KARACHI: Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Fazl-ur-Rehman chaired a meeting to review the power supply situation in the city and future investment plans of K-Electric (KE).

The K-Electric delegation, headed by its Chairman Tayyab Tareen, apprised him that over US$ 1.4 billion have been invested in power infrastructure of the city which has resulted in exemption of 63% of Karachi from load-shed including all industrial zones and strategic installations.

Caretaker Sindh CM was also briefed that residential areas were provided with electricity on priority during Ramzan and all efforts were made to ensure consistent supply of electricity to the residential customers. “Throughout Eid ul Fitr, the command and control centers of KE remained fully functional and alert and closely monitored the power situation in the city,” the KE chairman said.

Tayyab said that the vertically integrated power company has brought considerable improvement in all sectors, including generation and distribution. He said KE has added 1,057 megawatts to its generation capacity since 2009. “Adding new generation capabilities and strengthening its transmission and distribution network are currently KE’s highest priorities. The power utility is also taking major steps towards enhancing transformation capacity and improving the reliability of power supply to its customers,” he said.

Caretaker CM Sindh assured KE delegation of all possible support in the better interest of the people of Karachi and sought its close coordination with all relevant stakeholders. Sohail Rajput, Principal Secretary; Rashid Hussain Kazi, Secretary Energy Department, Government of Sindh and Asmer Naim, Director External Affairs KE were also present on the occasion.
