Sir: Last year, the PML-N government declared that it had ended Pakistan’s loadshedding problem. Some rejoiced, while others remained skeptical. The latter argued that while the PML-N government had added more power stations to the grid, they had not solved the main problem — line losses. Line losses refer to the power that is lost due to power theft via illegal hooks, also known as kundas. The main problem however, is the general inefficiency of our power transmission system, which is outdated and poorly maintained, which results in power being lost. Because of this inefficient transmission system, loadshedding has begun again during summer, since people are using their fans and air conditioners. I hope that whichever government comes to power following the general elections in July will deal with this problem instead of getting involved in massive power projects that aren’t even related to the issue.
