The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government and the opposition reached consensus on Saturday to appoint Manzoor Afridi the caretaker chief minister of the province.
The development was confirmed by a senior government official.
CM Khattak and Opposition Leader in the KP Assembly Maulana Lutfur Rehman had held several sittings, where different names were considered for the slot. “Afridi’s name was finalised on Friday night, however it was disclosed on Saturday,” the official further added.
Later, KP Education Minister Atif Khan, while talking to media persons in Mardan, confirmed that Afridi’s name had been finalised for the post.
After detailed discussions, the government and opposition finalised Afridi, who would be running the provincial government affairs during the caretaker set up, he said. Afridi belongs to a political family of Khyber Agency and is the first cousin of Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi and also the nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ayub Afridi.
