LAHORE: A farewell meeting was held in Central Police office in connection with promotion of Additional Inspector General of the Punjab Highway Patrol Javed Saleemi in Grade 22 and his appointment as new IG National Highways & Motorways on Sunday. Deputy Inspector General Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, Supintendent Police Headquarters Shazia Sarwar, Senior Superintendent Police Lahore Region Zubair Darashak, SSP Rawalpindi Israr Abbasi, SP Multan Sajjad Hussain, SP Faisalabad Umme Salma, SP Bahawalpur Huma Naseeb, SP Gujranwala Shujat Ali Rana and all district Deputy Superintendent Police participated. On this occasion, Amjad Javed Saleemi said that a commander should be like a tree. His relation with subordinates should be like that of a father and son. “Subordinates should have direct access to their respective officers,” he said, adding that during “my posting, I had direct access with my force personnel. I made direct interaction with post incharges and sought out their problems that remained effective while making departmental policies. Patrolling posts are like our homes and their residents are same as our family members”. Ghulam Mahmood Dogar said that 1,263 constables were being recruited including 110 lady constables. A total of 275 personnel were given promotion from constable to head constable and 93 ASIs promotion is under process. Millions of trees were planted under the Green Highways drive. Sixteen million motorcycles were impounded. A comprehensive programme was initiated to improve the physical/fitness level of personnel by conducting three weeks of field craft course at four different stations. Ten new posts were constructed while seven were made operational and the repair work of 240 posts was completed. The construction work of 17 riverine police posts got completed. Seventy-one Kalashnikovs and 2,060 cases were registered under the head of illicit arms. Published in Daily Times, May 21ST 2018.
