GUJRANWALA: The anti-corruption department on Tuesday launched a crackdown against corruption and arrested four people allegedly involved in bribery and land frauds. The regional director Fareed Ahmed said that a team raided and arrested an official of the provincial highway department (PHD) while he was receiving a bribe of Rs90,000 from two citizens for recruiting them in the department. According to a report, a citizen Syed Samar Abbas filed an application that Rana Maqsood, an official of Narowal PHD took Rs75,000 from him for recruiting his son in the department. Meanwhile, another citizen Rizwan Bhatti also accused Rana Maqsood for taking Rs15,000 for employing his son in the department. The initial investigations revealed that the accused person absconded and avoided inquiry proceedings of anti-corruption and was declared as a proclaimed offender since June 2017. Fareed Ahmed further said that the department also arrested a land record officer (Patwari) over his alleged involvement in tempering and manipulating a land record. Reportedly, the assistant commissioner Malikwal filed a case against Nisar Ahmed that alleged him of transferring ownership of a 10-marla land of a citizen Muhammad Nazir to another person. The investigation revealed that the accused took Rs350,000 from the beneficiary. Consequently, he was arrested. In another raid, the team arrested a man with his wife, who was suspected of a land fraud in Sialkot. Reportedly, a citizen Allah Ditta lodged an application that accused Atta Ullah and Abasat Begum of forging ownership documents of 123-Kanals of land. They were interrogated about the matter but the investigation team did not get satisfactory arguments. Resultantly, a circle officer raided and arrested both of them. Two crushed to death At least two people were killed in separate road accidents in the district of Gujranwala. Reportedly, Shafiq, a resident of Kamoki, was coming back home when a truck ran over him. He died on the spot. Meanwhile, Rasoola Bibi, a resident of Ghakhar Mandi, was crossing a road when a speeding car ploughed into her. She was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to severe injuries. Police ‘solve’ blind murder case The Model Town Police on Tuesday successfully resolved a blind murder case and arrested two suspects. According to a police press release, Asif was killed two weeks ago by ‘unknown’ suspects. Meanwhile, the City Police Officer (CPO) Ashfaq Khan constituted an investigation team that found Sufyan and Nabeel as primary murderers. Reportedly, interrogators got a confession out of Sufyan and Nabeel which stated that they used to work at a shop of the deceased where they tried to rob him. Asif resisted them when they killed him.
