KARACHI: The Joining Hands Welfare Organisation, a not-for-profit entity, Wednesday distributed bottled water and juices among road users to beat the heat. “It is not the responsibility of the state only to provide water to road users. We all ought to relieve those who are influenced by the extreme summer,” said Joining Hands Welfare Organisation Chairman Sabeen Memon. She instructed Joining Hands Welfare Organization to launch a campaign and set up camps to make the public aware about remedies to treat heatstroke. She said that tips and remedies to treat heatstroke would be told to all and sundry at camps. “Unfortunately over a few years, hundreds of people have died of heatstroke and the situation is likely to worsen in the coming days. She urged the public to place water coolers at corners of streets to help people get rid of the natural disaster. She appealed to the government of Sindh, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, KMC and DMC to lend a helping hand to save lives. “If you happen to visit our heat stroke camp in Karachi, you won’t find medicines because now the government support is required. Meanwhile, road users and people hailed the initiative, saying that this kind of act could help fight heatstroke. They, however, railed against the heatstroke camps established by the government over missing facilities. Doctors have also advised the public to keep themselves safe from scorching sunlight and drink plenty of water.
