LAHORE: A seminar on the role of media against narcotics organised by the Institute of Communication Studies (ICS), University of the Punjab in collaboration with Drug Advisory Training Hub (DATH), Punjab Higher Education Commision and Youth Council for Anti Narcotics was held on Tuesday.
Anti Drug/Narcotics Campaign and Dir Drug Advisory Training Hub Consultant Syed Zulfiqar Hussain was the guest speaker. ICS Director Professor Dr Noshina Salim presided over the seminar and a large number of students, DATH executive committee members participated.
On this occasion, Syed Zulfiqar Hussain said that electronic and print media can play a vital role to reduce and combat drug addiction through positive messages. Television, radio and magazines play a major and vital role in forming the perceptions, attitudes and opinions of people, many of whom are strongly influenced by television programme. People are also influenced by television programmes such as films and dramas, he added.
Zulfiqar Hussain added that hard drugs such as crystal ice, cocaine and heroin are grave concerns for all of us and the problems of drug abuse cannot be solved by the government alone. However, the government is aware of the gravity of these issues and is making all efforts to control drug menace in the society.
