Sir: The incumbent federal government is all set to present its 6th budget for financial year 2018-19 on April 27 ensuring that it is discussed and passed well in time by the National Assembly prior to its stepping down on May 31 on completion of five years constitutional tenure. However, lot of confusion still prevails as officially it has not yet been announced as to who will be presenting the last budget of the ruling in the National Assembly in the absence of a full-fledged Federal Finance Minister after Ishaq Dar had proceeded abroad last year and reportedly is still undergoing treatment for his ailments perhaps in London, Britain, or elsewhere. Financial affairs of the federal government are being looked after by Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Miftah Ismail and Minister of State for Finance and Economic Affairs Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan and in the absence of a full-fledged Finance Minister, the finance ministry affairs on top of everyone else are also being supervised by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Pending an official announcement in this regard in order to remove the prevailing confusion, it is being reported in the media quoting the Finance Ministry officials that the Advisor to the PM has got an edge over the Minister of State and as such Miftah Ismail who enjoys the status of a federal minister is going to present the 2018-19 budget in the National Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly. With just one week left in the presentation of the federal budget for which NA has session has already been summoned on April 27 afternoon, it will still be good and appreciable if the prevailing confusion in the matter is removed at the earliest by formally designating the Advisor to the PM Miftah Ismail for earning this singular honour, please.
