LAHORE: The three-day 7th SAARC Neurosurgery Conference ended on Sunday where neurosurgeons from Pakistan, Russia, United Kingdom, Italy, Maldives, Kingdom of Saudia Arabia and United Arab Emirates participated. Neurosurgeons from foreign countries appreciated and acknowledged the research and modern techniques employed by Pakistani medical experts and said that indeed Pakistan was far ahead in this regard and successful neurosurgeries to treat brain tumours are a great achievement. Senator Saleem Zia, who attended the conference as the chief guest, said that holding of such conference provides platform to young doctors and medical students to come forward in the field of research and opt modern treatment for patients. Pakistan Society of Neurosurgery Chairman Prof Anwar Chaudhary congratulated all the participants, especially foreign delegates. He said that the conference was a successful event where 150 research papers were presented, eight workshops and 14 different sessions were held in which local and foreigner doctors expressed their full interest. Professor of Surgery Dr Khalid Mahmood said that holding of the conference in collaboration of the Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences was a great achievement. He said that the institution has such had well-equipped operation theatres, which were not available even at any private hospital. Prof Anwar, Prof Khalid and Dr Babar Butt said that arrival of senior doctors from other countries in Pakistan proves that this country is peaceful and has congenial atmosphere for any international event. This 7th SAARC Neurosurgery was addressed by different doctors who not only read their research papers but also performed live neurosurgeries. Doctors from United States of America took participation through Skype. All speakers hailed the role of Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences for organising the conference.
