KHYBER AGENCY: The first women computer centre, established inside the vocational centre in Government Girls High Secondary School (GGSS) under the auspices of Fata Development Authority (FDM) was inaugurated here on last day. Senator Taj Mohammad was the chief guest, while scores of tribal elders and members of the civil society were among the attendants. He formally cut the ribbon to formally open the computer lab. Speaking on the occasion the chief guest said that in this modern time no one could deny the importance of the computer and it was an opportunity for the tribal women to gain computer literacy as having restrictions, imposed from the tribal society, they cannot get computer education from centres, located in the bazaar. He said that Landi Kotal was an under-developed area and impart vocational learning was a must to empower the tribal women folk to generate their own sources of income. He visited display centre of the centre and took a keen interest in the handicraft and other items locally made by the students. Earlier, the trainers of the centre apprised the visiting guest of the problems being faced by them. The Member Parliament announced 10 laptops and 50 sewing machines respectively for the computer lab and the vocational centre. He also pledged to re-function the broken tube wells of the GGHS immediately to resolve the scarcity of drinking water in the school. It is to be mentioned here that the FDA had set up the centre in 2015 to teach vocational knowledge to the tribal girls and according to Wilsan Wazir, the in- charge of the centre, so far 200 local girls had completed their courses.
