KARACHI: Leading fashion designer Zaheer Abbas launched his atelier for fashion forward clientele in Karachi. The event saw the city’s glitterati descend upon the studio and have a great time with fashion’s who’s who on a breezy evening. The store marks the first purpose-built atelier by designer Zaheer Abbas. Situated on the buzzing streets of Clifton, Karachi, the event was hosted for media, bloggers and esteemed customers on Saturday. From geometric patterns of marble that span across the floors to eclectically-framed photos of his celebrated work collaged on the walls, the decor accents with old world charm and reflected Abbas’s own design sensibility of restrained elegance. The atelier features a dedicated space for prêt and luxury prêt offerings by the designers as well as a private suite for taking bridal and couture appointments. Clients can meet the designer and discuss their particular requirements. Speaking at the launch, Abbas commented, “Having worked for such a long time in Pakistani fashion industry, I felt this was the right step for me to improve access for my clientele and give them the attention they desire. The market has evolved considerably, so there will be more prêt and luxury prêt that range from desi worked up pieces and some contemporary basics for women so that they can wear and appreciate every day; not just one off red carpet pieces and runway showstoppers.” Abbas is a graduate of the Asian Institute of Fashion Design and made his early foray into the world of public relations, events and doing costumes for advertisements. He marked his fashion debut at Fashion Pakistan Week in 2010 with a collection titled ‘Lady Unveil’. Amidst critical acclaim, he went on to win Lux Style Award for Best Emerging Talent just a year after in 2011 and launched his bridal line in 2013. Since he has been showcasing his work in Paris Fashion Week and Fashion DNA in London among others. The PR for the event was managed by Take II.
