LAHORE: A man injured in a fight following an argument between attendants of a woman admitted to a maternity ward at Services Hospital and hospital staff late on Monday night, died on Tuesday. Shadman police have registered a murder case against doctors, security guards and other staff members and started investigation. The FIR registered on the complaint of Aneel Masih, brother of the deceased, a resident of Khybar Colony on Ghazi Road, stated that the argument had started after a woman doctor on duty at the ward allegedly asked a nurse to attend to the patient’s needs while she was taking a phone call. It said Kiran Saleem, who was admitted for a child delivery, turned away the nurse, asking for the woman doctor to visit her bed. Afterwards, the doctor and the patient exchanged harsh words. The FIR said that the doctor allegedly slapped the patient on her face. Soon, Saleem’s relatives also intervened, but the situation was temporarily controlled with the intervention of policemen and the medical superintendent. However, Johnson Saleem, another brother of the patient, alleged that the guards on duty later locked the room where he and his other brothers, including Sunil Saleem and Anil Saleem, were sitting. The guards were later joined by three doctors as they started beating him and others, he alleged. Sunil Saleem, an employee of the Motorway police, and a guard were later admitted to the hospital for treatment. Sunil died on Tuesday. The guard’s condition remains critical, according to hospital sources. Police said the body had been sent for a postmortem examination and further headway could be made in investigation once the report was available. Published in Daily Times, March 28th 2018.
