KARACHI: The Provincial Nurses Association (PNA) of Sindh on Tuesday staged a sit-in in front of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) to push the authorities concerned to meet their demands pertaining to time-scale promotions and implementation of a four-tier formula and health professional allowance for nursing employees. The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with different slogans like “Nurses ka muashi qatal, na Manzoor”. Both male and female nurses from government hospitals of Karachi and nursing institutes participated in the sit-in. Speaking on the occasion, PNA Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) Unit president Sajjad Jamali said that nurses in Sindh were facing multiple problems but authorities of the health department were not serious to resolve these longstanding issues. He informed the media that the PNA had presented a charter of demands to the Sindh government which included demands like health professional allowance, time scale promotions, new appointment of nurses, teaching allowance, DDO powers to principals, residential colony for nurses, establishment of a nursing university and regularization of contract nurses. He warned that the protest demonstration of nurses would spread to every city of the province if their demands were not accepted by the Sindh government.
