Security of foreign visitors is a top priority: IG

LAHORE: The provision of foolproof security to all foreigners, especially Chinese nationals, is the prime responsibility of the special protection unit, Inspector General of Police Punjab Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan expressed these views while addressing a high level meeting of officers at CPO office on Thursday.

He said all available resources would be utilised for practical steps with comprehensive strategies, adding that there should be no shortage of modern weapons, swift speed vehicles, bullet proof jackets, night vision telescopes with other accessories to the personnel deputed on CPEC related project’s security.

He emphasised upon the need for briefing of police personnel about current challenges at these sites so that they could perform their duties diligently and in high spirits. He said the shortage of officers and officials in SPU would be overcome very soon.

He said attention should be given to constructive activities for betterment of the quality of lives of personnel deputed at CPEC related sites, and mock exercises should be arranged to enhance efficiency of their performance.

Earlier, DIG SPU Faisal Ali Rana briefed the IG saying that the unit’s counter at the Lahore airport was now operational, where every foreign citizen is given security after entry of their data. Likewise, special counters will be installed at all other important airports of the province and it will also be linked up with system of NADRA. He also briefed IG about other vital developmental projects and steps taken for enhancing security personnel’s capability.

Punjab IG directed the unit to focus on welfare of its personnel by reviewing their duty timings and providing them with standardised food and other sports and recreational activities so that personnel may perform duties diligently. He further said foreigners visiting the country for CPEC and other developmental related projects were the country’s guests so only A category officers should be deputed for their security.
