LAHORE: Justice Jawad Hassan of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Punjab chief secretary over alleged illegal appointments of Local Government Additional Secretary Fatima Sheikh, Primary and Secondary Health Additional Secretary Ayesha Rranjha and Additional Secretary Special Operations Hassan Akhtar. The court inquired how a person could be appointed on deputation basis when Supreme Court had declared appointments on deputation basis illegal. The court sought a reply from the respondent until March 20. Counsel for petitioner Sheraz Zaka submitted that an additional secretary to various departments could only be appointed from those officials belonging to either DMG or from Provincial Management Service (PMS).
