LAHORE: Legends Nadeem Khan Invitational Golf Tournament turned out to be a fierce battle of nerves between the champion golfers of the country at the beautiful Defence Raya Golf and Country Club Golf Course here on Wednesday. In the professionals’ category, the final outcome of the event emerged after a sudden death play off between Muhammad Munir of Islamabad, a top golf professional of the country, and Muhammad Imran of Defence Raya Golf Club, who is trying to make his name as a golfer of substance. The sudden death playoff was certainly a show of skills and though Imran showed ample golfing ability, it was Munir who won on the second hole of the play off. Overall Munir pocketed the first lucrative cash prize of Rs 325,000 through a score of gross 67 and subsequent excellence in the play off. Imran came second and secured the cash prize of Rs.210,000. Interestingly the third slot was shared between three professionals: Nadeem Khan, Waheed Baloch and Mohammad Tariq. The Pro Am event brought forth an exciting struggle and the best pair was Mohammad Shabbir, a professional golfer from Islamabad, and Dr Dildar Chaudhary (an amateur golfer of Defence Raya). As a professional, Shabbir was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs.100,000 while Dr Dildar picked up a valuable one wood driver. In this category, the combination of Mohammad Munir and Sameer Iftikhar came second. Nadeem Khan and Nasir Mehmood came third. Amongst the amateurs, the top performer was Dr Dildar with a score of net 69. Ahsan Khawaja of Lahore Gymkhana came second. His score was also net 69. Abid Farooq of Royal Palm Club ended up third with a score of net 71. At the conclusion of the grand event Mikail Khan gave away the prizes to the winners. Published in Daily Times, March 8th 2018.
