Karachi: The verbal spat between leaders of two factions of the MQM-Pakistan continued on Tuesday. Bahadurabad faction leader Farogh Naseem, the only MQM-P member elected to the Senate on March 3, rejected all claims made by Farooq Sattar a day earlier in an interview with a private TV channel. Speaking in a programme aired at Ary News, Sattar had said that he was advised by Naseem to side line Amir Khan, a major leader of the Bahadurabad faction. Sattar also attributed to Naseem the suggestions that Kamran Tessori’s name should be considered for Senate election and amendments in party constitution to make the officer of central leader’s office more powerful, compared to the coordination committee. Terming all these claims baseless, Farogh Naseem said on Tuesday that he never advised Sattar to amend the party’s constitution to get discretionary powers for himself. “Perhaps, he forgot to mention that I also advised him to become the US president and the United Nations General Secretary,” Naseem said, taking a jibe at Sattar. He said that Sattar had consulted him multiple times for assistance in legal affairs but he did not ever made any of the suggestions mentioned by Sattar in his recent interview. “Farooq Sattar has been seeking legal help from me since 2007. I got his bail approved from anti-terrorism courts in at least 40 cases, and this is how is paying me back,” Naseem lamented. Regarding Sattar’s claim that he had written evidence to back up his statements, the MQM-P senator said that as a lawyer it was his habit of making notes of all important meetings, but he was not aware of writing any note Sattar claims to be possessing as evidence in the matter.
