Sir: Bilawal Bhutto has said that the PPP would never let the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) be privatised, adding that his party would resist any move to this end at every available forum. During a meeting with 15 PIA employees, led by Hidayatullah Khan of the Peoples Unity, Bilawal said the PPP was concerned as they had received compelling evidence that during the past five years, certain faulty policies had been deliberately adopted to make the national flag carrier and the Pakistan Steel Mills incur huge losses running into hundreds of billions of rupees. “The criminal neglect suffered by these state-run entities shows that it was done by design so that they incurred huge liabilities and thereby a false justification was created for their sale at throwaway prices,” he said. It seems Bilawal hasn’t learnt lessons from his grandfather’s follies. Nationalisation was Bhutto’s was one of biggest mistakes and When Bilawal Bhutto emerged in country’s political scene after his mother’s tragic death, the people expected so much from him. He has delivered and continues to be the source of hope for us, but he should reconsider this particular policy. I personally support his politics because he remains the only sane voice in our political discourse. And I am sure he will deliver. HAIDER ALI Islamabad Published in Daily Times, March 3rd 2018.
