ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Thursday dismissed an application filed by the Sharif family seeking reevaluation of wealth tax on their shares in various companies. During the court proceedings, counsel for the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) informed the bench that the matter regarding wealth tax had already been finalised by the apex court back in 2001. “The authorities have been collecting wealth tax as per the decision of the apex court,” he said, and maintained that the application held no substance. After hearing arguments from both sides, the top court decided to uphold it’s earlier verdict and dismissed Sharif family’s appeal. Published in Daily Times, March 2nd 2018.
