ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nehal Hashmi’s seat in Senate that had been vacated after he was removed by Supreme Court over contempt of court charge will be contested by Dr Asad Ashraf from Lahore. According to details, the new candidate Dr Asad Ashraf, supported by PML-N, is taking part in the elections as an independent candidate. Dr Ashraf was born in Lahore on 21 June, 1963. After completing his degree of MBBS in 1986, he took a postgraduate diploma in Cardiology. He has served as a psychiatrist in Services Hospital. He has worked as an advisor to the Chief Minister from 1997 to 1999 and also won the seat of Member Punjab Assembly on the ticket of PML-N in 2002. Dr Ashraf was also given the responsibility of Deputy Parliamentary Leader in 2008. He is considered a close friend of Sharif brothers.
