KARACHI: Police on Sunday arrested seven people in Karachi in connection with a viral video of a young man firing into the air on Shahrah-e-Faisal and using foul language against an unidentified person, a day after Sindh Police Inspector General (IG) AD Khawaja and Home Minister Sohail Siyal took notice of the incident. The video which began circulating on social media on Friday night shows a man, who identifies himself as Adnan Pasha, waving a gun and firing shots into the air on an empty road that he claims is the main Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi. Amid expletives, Pasha challenges — it is unclear who — “to stop him if they can”. In a second video released later, Pasha accuses Zeeshan Saeed, alias Shani, of having his father killed and threatened him with consequences. Home Minister Siyal and IG Khawaja ordered a probe and a report on the matter. Police on Sunday said they raided the residence of Pasha’s in-laws in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, his office and a mobile market in addition to his own residence. In December last year, a video went viral on social media, showing a citizen misbehaving with police officers and then speeding away in the city’s Sea View area. The citizen was identified as lawyer Shamsul Islam, who could be seen in the video arguing and misbehaving with police officers, who were conducting routine checking on Dr Abdul Sattar Edhi Road. Separately, the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) arrested four members of a bike lifter gang and recovered 10 stolen / snatched bikes on Sunday. According to details, taking notice of an increase in car / motorcycle lifting incidents in the metropolis, the ACLC conducted operations in different areas of Karachi. During the operations, four member of a bike-lifter gang were arrested with 10 stolen / snatched motorcycles. The detainees in the preliminary investigation admitted to their involvement in car / motorcycle lifting incidents across the city. The ACLC impounded the recovered bikes and the nabbed culprits were being interrogated after registering cases against them. Published in Daily Times, February 26th 2018.
