KARACHI: A police official suspected of involvement in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case was arrested on Wednesday Mehsud, a 27-year-old native of Waziristan, was among four people killed in a staged encounter led by then-Malir SSP Rao Anwar on January 13. Following outrage on social media, Anwar and most members of his team went into hiding. The police official arrested on Wednesday was identified as Jamil Abbasi. He was nabbed by police and counter terrorism department officials in a joint raid in Quaidabad area. Later, the suspected official was transferred to an undisclosed location for further interrogation. Abbasi was posted at the Malir City police station and was a guard of Shah Latif Town SHO Amanullah Marwat, who along with Anwar is yet to be caught. The number of suspects arrested in the case so far has now reached 11. Meanwhile, the investigation team probing Naqeebullah Mehsud’s murder has written to the Punjab’s inspector general of police, seeking details of two persons killed alongside Mehsud. The letter seeks details about Mohammad Ishaq and Mohammad Sabir who were arrested from Ahmedpur East and Multan, respectively, in 2016. Ishaq, a seminary teacher, and Sabir, a mosque cleric, were both residents of Ahmedpur East in Bahawalpur. Families of Ishaq and Sabir have recorded their statements with the investigation team against the Malir police.
