LAHORE: A Tony Award-winning play titled ‘Art’ performed at Alhamra Art Centre Tuesday received marvellous applaud from audience The Alliance Francaise de Lahore organised the play for Lahoris in collaboration with Lahore Amateur Theatre Zealots (LATZ) and Alhamra Arts Council (AAC) after successfully presenting three shows of ‘ART’ in Karachi and Islamabad. An all-female cast was chosen for the play who successfully performed the play with their mesmerising roles. The story revolves around three friends-Serge (played by Iman Shahid), Marc (played by Mairam Saleem) and Yvan (played by Zainab Ahmed-who find their previously solid 15-year friendship on shaky ground when Serge buys an expensive painting. The canvas is white, with a few white lines. The comedy, which raises questions about art and friendship, concerns three long-time friends, Serge, Marc, and Yvan. Serge, indulging his penchant for modern art, buys a large, expensive, completely white painting. Marc is horrified, and their relationship suffers considerable strain as a result of their differing opinions about what constitutes “art”. Yvan, caught in the middle of the conflict, tries to please and mollify both of them. The play was directed by Tughral AT Ali and produced by LATZ founder Huma Ijaz Zaman. The play was first premiered in Paris in 1994 and since then it has been performed in several countries and in several languages. Art is 4th production by LATZ in a year.
