ISLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has asked Provincial Quality Control Boards of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir chairmen to ensure strict compliance of the Drug Sale Rules particularly related to the sales of medicines containing controlled substances.
The spokesperson stated that DRAP was taking steps to improve the legitimate use of controlled medicines and to stop its misuse.
He further added that it has been observed that pharmacies and distributors were not maintaining proper sale record of medicines/products containing controlled substances according to the respective provincial Drug Sale Rules. It is mandatory to maintain the complete sale records of medicines containing controlled substances and such medicines cannot be sold without the prescription of a registered medical practitioner. This decision was made by the Committee for Allocation of Quota of Controlled Substances constituted under SRO NO. 60/2014 in its 49th meeting.
