Sir: According to a news report, New Delhi and Tehran have decided to collaborate their efforts in Afghanistan. This report has come in just a day after reports of Pakistan’s military establishment sending Pakistani troops to Saudi Arabia without consulting with Parliament. It remains to be seen what the two governments will be collaborating on in the war torn country. However, if the Modi government is involved then it is quite likely that Pakistan will not be invited to the party.
In this scenario, Pakistan’s Foreign Office must send delegates to Tehran to minimize the damage done as a result of sending soldiers to Iran’s arch-rival: Saudi Arabia. Iran is our neighbour and is closer to Pakistan in terms of culture as well. Pakistan and Iran had a very close relationship until the Iranian Revolution. Furthermore, it is high time we fixed our relationship with India and Afghanistan. Pakistan will not be peaceful or developed if we have hostile neighbours to our east and west. Once this happen, we can focus our military might on counter terrorism while enjoying brotherly relations with our neighbours.
