KARACHI: Social activist Sarim Burney has on Wednesday accused Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Salman Mujahid Baloch of raping and then blackmailing a woman. According to Burney, Salman Mujahid first raped the woman and then blackmailed her pressuring not to report the incident. An application was filed by the woman claiming to be victim for a First Information Report (FIR) to be registered against Baloch on January 4. However, the MQM-P leader rejected the allegations saying that he had filed an FIR on December 16 whereby he had claimed that conspiracies were being hatched against him. He said that he was being subjected to these conspiracies only because he had sided with Dr Farooq Sattar. While Baloch claimed that he had in fact given Rs 4 million to the same lady for her medical treatment, Sarim Burney has demanded that Interior Ministry must take measures to protect women from such incidents. A committee has been formed by Home Ministry to probe the charges under the headship of DIG police. Baloch has also claimed that the pictures circulating on media are fake.
