Seminar on Parkinson’s disease at FJMU

LAHORE: A seminar on updates on management of Parkinson’s disease and movement disorder was organised at the Fatima Jinnah Medical University on Wednesday.

Azhra Naheed Medical College Principle participated in the seminar as the chief guest and Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, Fatima Jinnah University (FJMU) Vice Chancellor participated as the guest of honour. The purpose of this seminar was to spread awareness about the disease.

Health experts briefed the audience that Parkinson disease in a progressive Neuro degenerative disease causing disability and this can be effectively treated by early diagnosis and management. The overall prevalence in the world is estimated at 6.5 million at present and expected to double in the next 10 to 20 years. In Pakistan alone there are estimated to be 450,000 persons affected from this disease. Expert discussed DBS as surgical procedure and gave opinion when to put this option. Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice Chancellor FJMU describes the audience positive changing of FJMU, treatment of Patients and research culture.
