LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) celebrated the sanitation week in Gujranwala and Kasur district by removing hundreds of tonnes waste and raising awareness among the public about the need to have a clean environment. An LWMC spokesman said on Tuesday that the company had established solid waste management system in the cities and carried out special cleanliness operation with the help of local concerned administration. He said that LWMC had helped the Kasur administration by conducting special cleanliness operation. More than 93 kanals area was cleaned up with the help of five dumpers three loaders who made nearly 600 trips to the designated dump site and lifted all the waste in the area. The operation was carried out in the city to help the local administration for providing ease to the locals. Similarly, in collaboration with LWMC, Gujranwala Waste Management Company was announced sanitation week in the city and more than 594 tons of waste was lifted in this operation. The Lahore Waste Management Company carried out cleanup operation in the city with the help of two dumpers, two arm rolls, two tractor loaders, four mechanical sweepers, two master pickups along with dedicated staff of 24 personnel who took part in the cleanup operation. The whole operation was monitored by Senior Manager Operations Zahid Mushtaq and Deputy Manager Operations Ayesha Nazir. He said that in order to raise awareness among the citizens, a drive was also the part of the campaign. LWMC Managing Director Bilal Mustafa Syed stated that LWMC was willing to help other administrations upon their request and always tried to facilitate them in improving their capacity. Further, he said that LWMC performance in the city was improving day by day as residents of Lahore were becoming more aware of their sanitation responsibility and it is a mutual effort of public and government in maintaining cleanliness in the city.
