ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Sunday expressed dissatisfaction over the proceedings in the Zainab murder case, ordering the completion of investigations within 72 hours, reported Daily Times.

Hearing the suo moto notice in Supreme Court’s (SC) Lahore registry, CJ said that the Station Head Officer (SHO) of the concerned police station had not been removed for the last three years despite complaints against him. He was told by Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head Muhammad Idrees that all eight incidents since June 2015 had taken place in the premises of two police stations and one man was involved in all the cases.

Idrees presented the report of the investigations conducted so far before the 3-member bench. He told that the first two incidents had taken place in the premises of Saddar Division Police Station. Chief Justice asked what the police were doing when so many incidents of child abuse were occurring in the premises of only two police stations.

Zainab murder case court order:

JIT head told the court that it had conducted DNA tests of 800 people and 8 out of them had been matched. To this, CJ remarked that all the police’s investigations were in just one direction while it could have used the traditional methods as well. “What the police have been doing right now, you might have to DNA test all the 210 million population”, he said.

Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik remarked on the occasion that the police should use methods other than the DNA testing as well and added that the police could certainly get to the culprit using the traditional methods. “Had you been serious enough in 2015, eight girld wouldn’t have died after being raped”, he added.

Zainab’s uncle and families of other victims also attended the court proceedings today. They were asked if they had any complaints regarding the case. The survivors expressed satisfaction over what the JIT had been doing and prayed that they succeeded.

The full bench ordered JIT to include a psychologist into the team as well and also demanded the medical report of the girl named Kainat who had been raped and is currently under medical treatment at Children’s Hospital in Lahore.
