KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar on Friday took suo moto notice of Naqeebullah Mehsud’s extra-judicial ‘encounter’, also ordering Inspector General (IG) Sindh to present a report regarding the case within 7 days.
Pertaining orders from Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal on Thursday, IG Sindh AD Khawaja established a committee consisting of Inspector General Police (IGP) Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) Sanaullah Abbasi, DIG South and East to probe the alleged ‘encounter’.
SSP Rao Anwar presented evidences related to Naqeebullah’s criminal record before the committee, which are being reviewed by the board. Talking to the media, Anwar reiterated his stance saying that the 27-year-old from South Waziristan was ‘100 percent a terrorist.’
DIG Karachi, on the other hand, said thorough investigation will be conducted in Naqeeb’s case, also confirming that SSP Rao and family members of Naqeeb have been summoned for inquiry. He also said that since it is an open investigation, anyone related to Naqeeb can come forward and record a statement.
Contrary to SSP Rao’s claims of Naqeeb having links with banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a spokesperson from TTP has reportedly said that the 27-year-old had no links with the organisation whatsoever, according to Express Tribune.
On January 13, Naqeebullah Mehsud was fatally shot during a police raid on a ‘terrorist hideout’ in an alleged ‘encounter’ at Shah Latif town.
