KWSB decides to hold 2nd board meeting after 7 years for streamlining affairs

KARACHI: In light of strict directions by Supreme Court (SC) to Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), the entity has finally decided to hold a second Board meeting in period of seven years for streamlining its affairs, officials of the entity have informed.

After worst working and progress besides lethargic attitude of responsible of KWSB, issues of vital public importance has been put on meeting agenda being held on Friday (tomorrow).

SC had directed the entity for ensuring supply of safe drinking water to Karachi, ensure safe environment, treatment of sewage water, abolishment of illegal hydrants and completion of related development projects of public welfare.

Last Board meeting was held on February 7, 2017 at Camp Office during tenure of former Chairman of Board, Agha Siraj Durrani after 2010.

The presentation of major development projects including 260 million gallon of water per Day (MGD) through K-4 Project, 65 MGD supply from Haleji to Karachi project, up-gradation of Dhabeji Pumping Station, Filter Plant at Dhabeji and greater Sewerage project S-III, sewerage system rehabilitation and restoration of encroached government land from land grabbers, approval for creation a independent KWSB Police Station, Procurements for 40-Mega Watt power plant at Dhabeji, approval of Charter of Demand of CBA Union, provision of water to DHA from additional water bringing through K-IV project on its completion and encroached land of Mehmoodabad TP-II, currently under investigation by Anti Corruption Establishment would be on agenda, the officials have revealed.

Review of development works of KWSB, ratification of anticipatory approval under section 6(1) C of KWSB Act 1996 for scheme and to scrutinise in compliance to decision of last Board meeting were also on agenda.

Jam Khan Shoro, Chairman, Minister Local Government Sindh would chair the meeting while Hashim Raza Zaidi, Managing Director KWSB, Akhtar Ghori, DMD RRG and HRDA (focal person), member Sindh Assembly Sajid Jokhio, Vice Chairman, Waseem Akhtar, Mayor Karachi, Muhammad Waseem, Additional Chief Secretary (P&D), Altaf Ahmed Bijarani, Secretary (P&D), Abdul Raheem Soomro, Secretary Industries and Commerce Department Secretary Finance, Secretary Local Government, Chairman KPT, Chairman K-Electric, President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Divisional Superintendent, Pakistan Railway, elected members, Syed Nayyar Raza, Chairman DMC Korangi, Jan Muhammad Baloch, Chairman, DMC Malir, Moeed Anwer, Chairman DMC East, Rehan Hashmi, Chairman DMC Central, Malik Muhammad Fayyaz, Chairman DMC South and Salman Murad Baloch, Chairman District Council Karachi would attend Board meeting.
