Sir: After Nur Khan’s resignation in response to political interference and irregularities in appointments by the Zia Junta in Pakistan International Airways (PIA), this state owned corporation has been a victim of repetitive rape and planned plunder by successive governments. Be it the PIAC , or its subsidiary PIA Investments, both have been subjected to abuse by every government and their cronies who have treated these state owned enterprises as spoils of war. PIA Investment is headed by a 68 year old American national, who is a declared bank defaulter. He has been a favorite choice of every government, whose ruling elite and members of Board of Directors have benefited from all paid foreign trips to New York and Paris where it owns two prestigious hotels, the Roosevelt and Scribe. While PIA Investment and its primary owner PIA itself are based in Pakistan the Board of Directors choose to meet abroad. There is a method in this madness of preferring dual nationals to hold key executive assignments in both PIA and its subsidiary PIA Investments, because they facilitate the corrupt ruling elite in money laundering. In the event of being caught by the law, these corrupt executives can flee to their newly adopted countries, which will also help their political godfathers evade accountability. Can anybody in PIA or any relevant ministry justify appointing a controversial man with little education holding dual nationality with a history of financial and administrative irregularities, including his involvement in illegal land mafia scams like Karachi’s Kidney Hill as MD of PIA in 2008 driving it to bankruptcy and during whose tenure the highest number of fake degree holders were recruited with numerous other financial scams to his credit. From the likes of Shujaat Azeem, AVM Niaz, Kamran, Haider Jalal to Yusafzai it is an endless tale of loot and plunder for which PIA employees ought to be held responsible.
