KARACHI: Police have arrested a seminary teacher for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student in the city’s Gulistan-e-Johar locality. The minor boy informed police that the cleric, Qari Muhammad Saleem sexually assaulted him on Friday night inside the madrassah, which prompted the police to conduct a raid and apprehend the accused. A medical examination confirmed the sexual assault, after which a case was registered against the cleric, police said. Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Khan Siyal has taken notice of the incident, seeking a detailed inquiry report from East Deputy Inspector General of Police. A number of sexual assault cases against minors in the country have surfaced in the past month. A six-year-old boy was sexually assaulted in a Karachi bakery on January 8. Separately, police officers on Monday arrested three people including a bank manager for raping Korangi’s 13-year-old girl. According to details, the victim managed to flee the scene and told everything to her parents, alleging that the suspects raped her for three days. On girl’s identification, colony’s woman, her daughter Dua and the culprit were arrested. Meanwhile, police recovered dead body of a youth from an under-construction building in Korangi Chakra Goth area of Karachi. The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Nazir. Police sources said that torture marks were visible on the body of deceased. On the other hand, police conducted an operation in Manghopir area and arrested a man and a woman involved in a murder case.
