Sir: The horrific rape and murder of seven year old Zainab Ansari has shocked Pakistan, creating shockwaves in the form of riots and causing heartache and tears across the country. She disappeared while going for Quran classes to a nearby house while her parents were away for Umrah. A few days later her dead body was found amidst garbage in a dumpster. Her case is not the first in Kasur. Six girls have already been sexually assaulted in the past and the government is solely to be blamed for their failure to arrest those involved in these crimes.Parents now live in fear and insecurity for their children and hesitate to send them outside alone. How long will it be before another Zainab is abducted, raped and murdered? Is there nothing that our so called government can do to protect our children from such inhumane atrocities? Where is our country’s promise to protect citizens lives? The condemnable and horrific rape of Zainab has once again exposed how vulnerable our children are.I strongly condemn the killing of Zainab and I request our government authorities and senior officials concerned with handling and investigating the crime to arrest these criminal beasts and bring them to exemplary justice by giving them the highest degree of punishment imaginable.ADIL HAIDERMakranPublished in Daily Times, January 14th 2018.
