GUJRANWALA: Civil lines police Friday arrested a student after he allegedly threatened to blow up the building of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala. Police registered a first information case after arresting the student. According to FIR, Hassan Khawaja, an intermediate student, had send an email to the education board website that he would blast a bomb within three days in the board campus after he was declared fail in second year supplementary examination. The student also abused the paper checking staff in his email. The police swung into action after the education board secretary filed an application against the student. Meanwhile, the Rescue 1122 and other departments Friday conducted a mock exercise to check preparedness for possible emergency. Dozens of police officials, Rescue 1122, CTD and civil defence personnel participated in the exercise. The aim of the exercise was to educate and train the emergency staff to achieve a high level of efficiency. During the exercise officials displayed their expertise as they rescued people from a burning building and the site of a terrorist attack. Separately, religious, political and social sector staged protests across the city against Kasur incident on Friday. Hundreds of workers of Jamat-e-Islami, PLM-N, Sunni Tehrik, Khaksar Tehrek and students of different colleges participated in the protests. The protesters holding banners chanted slogans against police and Punjab government. Workers of Jamat-e-Islami youth blocked the road by burning tyres. They demanded that Punjab government should adopt solid steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents. Later protesters dispersed peacefully. In another incident, FIA arrested two human traffickers and also unearthed an illegal currency exchange. Deputy Director Mufakhir Adeel said that accused Khadam Hussan and Abdul Ghafoor were allegedly involved in sending people abroad illegally. Published in Daily Times, January 13th 2018.
