LAHORE: Two resolutions submitted in the Provincial Assembly by PML-N women lawmakers seek capital punishment for the culprit who raped and murdered eight-year-old child in Kasur. On Thursday, MPA Nighat Sheikh filed a resolution on the horrible incident, while her colleague Hina Pervaiz Butt had already filed a resolution on the issue. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) legislator Shoaib Sadiqui had a day ago filed an adjournment motion, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) lawmaker Khadija Umar Farooqi submitted a call attention notice in this regard. They demanded the government to give exemplary punishment to the culprits involved in the Zainab’s sexual abuse and murder case. In her resolution, Nighat Sheikh said, “This house condemns the rape and murder incident of Zainab in Kasur and demands the government to not only arrest but also hang the culprit publicly for setting some example to curb such crimes.” She added, “we demand that the government should introduce a chapter in school syllabus about awareness on sexual abuse and ways through which children could protect themselves.” Earlier, Shoaib Sadiqui, in his adjournment motion, strongly condemned Zainab’s killing and lashed out on the Punjab government for its poor grip on law and order. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab general secretary Chaudhry Manzoor demanded resignation from Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah for poor law and order situation despite Safe city project worth billions of rupees. He said that Punjab government’s negligence had led to a repeat of the Model Town incident in Kasur where two unarmed civilians protesting Zainab’s killing were shot and killed by policemen. He termed Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah directly responsible for the murder of two protesters in Kasur. PPP secretary also condemned the Punjab CM for having the audacity to visit the family after his negligence in running provincial affairs led to the family’s suffering.
