LAHORE: Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday visited the parents of eight-year-old Zainab at their residence in Kasur to expresse his condolences. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that no amount of condemnation would enough to match the heinousness of the crime committed with the innocent child. He assured the family that he would not sit idle till justice was served to them. “The criminal responsible for this horrific act will not be allowed to escape punishment,” he said. The Chief Minister said that he had directed the police higher ups to ensure immediate arrest of the criminal. He said appropriate legal action will be initiated against the police officials involved in firing at the protestors without any apparent reason. The Chief Minster said that a high-level JIT comprising of civil and army officials had been constituted to probe the matter. Separately, the CM presided over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order. The meeting was told that the Punjab government had announced financial compensation for heirs of the two persons killed by police firing. Published in Daily Times, January 12th 2017.
