ISLAMABAD: Over 200 students from different cities achieved Pearson-Edexcel awards in four different categories at a ceremony held in the capital. According to a press release issued by the organisation, the outstanding performance awards were given to students who obtained eight ‘A’ and above grades in the International GCSE and A-Levels. In addition to this, more than 40 teachers were given ‘Best Performance Award’ to recognise their efforts in the field of education. Pearson is UK’s largest body offering academic and vocational qualifications in collaboration with the British Council. James Hampson, acting country director of the British Council, in his comments recognised the efforts of the teachers as well as students in achieving the academic excellence. He said the UK government will ensure creation of opportunities for Pakistani students to help them secure foreign qualifications. He said the qualifications offered by Pearson-Edexcel were strengthening state of education in Pakistan. President Pearson UK Rod Bristo said Pakistan was an important country because there were too many high achievers who continuously perform well in their exams. “I am thankful to the British Council for their partnership with Pearson and it is really valued for us. I would like to congratulate the high achievers, teachers and families,” he said. In his welcome note, Pearson Country Manager Faisal Mahmood said the ceremony was a special occasion which provided an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary achievements of the most talented students in Pakistan. “While we focus on celebrating students in this ceremony, there are many other people who we recognise at the same time – whose support and commitment has made these achievements possible. We thank and celebrate the collective efforts of school management and especially the teachers,” he said.
