LAHORE: Vehari Police has arrested a suspect for allegedly murdering a six-year-old child. This was stated by Vehari DPO Umer Saeed Malik through an official statement issued on Tuesday. He said that on the directions of IGP Captain (r) Arif Nawaz Khan, a massive crackdown had been launched against criminals in all the districts of Punjab. The DPO said that the daughter of a vegetable seller had gone missing last week. “Police lodged a case and started searching for the girl. Later on, police was informed that the body of a child was lying in the vicinity of Fida Chungi, City Marriage Hall,” he said. Police recovered the body and launched an investigation. “To widen the scope of investigation, police constituted an investigation team, including the Investigation SP, the Mailsi DSP, the Organised Crime DSP, the Mailsi SHO and members of the Crime Investigation Agency and began to investigate possible leads. Finally, the special teams succeeded. The child’s murderer turned out to be her neighbour, Muhammmad Asif, who lived in a back street. The accused is a labourer by profession,” the DPO said. “On the night of the said incident, Asif drugged the child and then abducted her. He later raped her and then buried her in an under-construction building,” the DPO said. “The accused has already served time in a rape case. He was acquitted from in 2016.
