KARACHI: Police killed an alleged robber during an encounter on Tariq Road area of the city on Thursday. According to sources, a gang of three robbers were looting a woman near Liberty traffic signal. After receiving information a police team reached the scene; seeing it the robbers opened fire, which was retaliated. During shootout, a 40-year-old robber, Imran Solangi suffered bullet injuries and died on the spot, while his accomplices fled the scene. The police also recovered a TT pistol, bullets and a motorbike from the spot. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical for medico- legal formalities. Meanwhile, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of police and Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) on Thursday claimed to have arrested three extortionists during operation in Arambagh area of the city. DIGP CIA Ismail Memon formed a team lead by SSP CIA/ AVCC, which raided in Arambagh area and arrested three alleged extortionists, Rizawan, son of Muhbat Khan, Omkaar, son of Bhagwandas and Faizullah, son of Muhammad Nabi. CIA team claimed to have recovered a cell phone from accused that was used for collecting extortion. The accused were getting extortion from traders belonging to minorities. Separately, a man died in a gas cylinder explosion in Banaras area of the city on Thursday. According to rescue sources, a cylinder exploded due to gas leakage at a shop in Banaras area. As a result, 46-year-old Yaqoob suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities.
