LAHORE: Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana has stressed that Institute of Chartered Accountants Pakistan (ICAP) should play an active role to improve “ease of doing business” in Pakistan and suggestions might also be shared in that regard. He was talking to a high level delegation of Institute of Chartered Accounts of Pakistan (ICAP) Northern Regional Committee (NRC) led by its chairman who called upon the Punjab governor in his office. The chairman was accompanied by members along with ICAP executive director. Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana appreciated the role of Institute of Chartered Accountants Pakistan in development of the economy and empowerment of youth by helping them to achieve the qualification of chartered accountancy. Briefing the governor about ICAP, ICAP NRC Chairman Asad Feroze apprised that it was the premium accountancy body of Pakistan governed by its council comprising 19 members, of them 15 were elected by members and 4 were government nominees. NRC of ICAP comprised of 6 members elected from membership of the Northern region (province of Punjab, KP and Federal Capital Territory), he said. Asad Feroze further informed that regional committee was entrusted with holding events and seminars for continuous professional development of members apart from other matters. He briefed the governor about various initiatives taken for the benefit of members. NRC members, Ali Saif Cheema and Rafqat Hussain, shared that there was a pivotal role played by ICAP in strengthening the regulatory framework in Pakistan through working in cooperation with important policy making institutions and regulators including the State Bank of Pakistan, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, the Federal Board of Revenue and other government departments or ministries. ICAP Executive Director Razi Khan briefed the governor that ICAP was established in 1961 to regulate the accountancy profession and was responsible for imparting chartered accountancy qualification in the country. Great services are offered by ICAP to the nation by fostering and nurturing young talent for leadership through its robust education and examination system thus producing high-calibre professionals coming from all classes of society, he maintained.
