Sir: In Balochistan, drought is completely destroying the livestock owned by the people of rural areas. Almost 25 percent of the livestock has already perished in many districts of the province. Livestock is an important and essential source of food for the poor people of rural areas, and over 70 percent population’s income is based on livestock. Essentially, the economic backbone of rural Balochistan is at risk of being destroyed because of the coming drought. Balochistan already faced a dangerous drought during the period between 1997 and 2005. It caused 1.76 million livestock deaths, hundreds of people lost their lives due to malnutrition and related diseases and they faced a loss of 25 billion rupees. In recent days, the same conditions have arrived in Balochistan. If this time nothing will be done for the protection of the livestock and the people of rural areas then once again Balochistan will face a destruction which will be very dangerous for the people. Balochistan is full of natural resources, so I am confused as to why the government is not providing funds for the rural areas of the province. I request that the Balochistan government provide funds to the rural people of the province and protect them from alarming oncoming drought.
