KHYBER AGENCY: As in many parts of the world, International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed in Khyber Agency on Sunday. In this connection, a gathering was organised under the auspices of Niaz Bahadar Disabled People Organisation in Jamrud. Member National Assembly Haji Shahjeegul Afridi was chief guest at the occasion in which a number of disabled people, tribal elders and member of civil society participated. Speaking on the occasion, Haji Shahjeegul Afridi said that disabled persons were significant part of society and should not be ignored. He said that with provision of proper education and other facilities, they could become useful member of society. “Time has come that the black law (FCR) will be eliminated from the tribal belt and every segment of tribal society including the disabled persons will enjoy all their basic rights”, Afridi remarked. Afridi assured full support for awareness of the rights of disabled people. Earlier, chairman of the organisation, Niaz Bahadar discussed the problems being faced by them. He said it was a lonely organisation that was created for the welfare of disabled people and needed support. At the end of the ceremony, the chief guest distributed 27 wheelchairs, 13 tricycles and 50 blankets among the disabled persons. Published in Daily Times, December 4th 2017.
