Surf Excel recently launched the leading detergent powder brand #SurfExcel conducted a social experiment to see why children did not give up in situations where adults gave up. They intended to see whether children learn to accept failure from adults.
The adults and children were asked to walk on a 20ft long log placed above a dirty playing field. Both tried the challenge but 84% adults and 92% children failed in their first attempt.
The children, however, did not lose hope and tried the challenge again. Every time they failed, they would line up again to try the challenge in a different way. Eventually, they completed the challenge.
The adults, on the other hand, gave up after their first failure. They did not try the challenge again.
To understand the reason, Surf Excel asked them questions. The adults replied that they shied away from trying again because of the fear of failure at the back of their heads. They said that it had not occurred to them to try the challenge in a different way just like the children did.
When the children were asked why the adults failed to complete the challenge, they said that they simply did not try.
In this campaign, Surf Excel aims to motivate people to keep trying until they succeed because people fall so they can learn to pick themselves up again. No one should let fear hold them back because you don’t learn by following the rules. You learn by doing and falling over. You never fail. Either you win or you learn.
